The Miles Davis Experience: 1949-1959 comes to Miller Outdoor Theatre on Thursday, November 3 at 7:30 pm.

Witness the Birth of Cool and relax to Kind of Blue, as this musical experience captures the sound, history and culture of this era in American history through the creativity of jazz music and its greatest innovator, Miles Davis, as performed by the Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet.

Houston Dia De Los Muertos Festival this Weekend

Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA) of Houston hosts Dia De Los Muertos: Honoring our Past, Celebrating our Future, a festival on Saturday, Oct. 29, and Sunday, Oct. 30, at their campus at 1900 Kane Street, Houston.

MECA’s event will feature Dia de los Muertos celebrations from throughout Latin America with an altar exhibit competition, foods from the Americas, vendors selling authentic Dia de los Muertos arts and crafts, and a Calavera fashion show.

Houston's Museum of Natural Science Presents "Discovering the Civil War"

Houston’s Museum of Natural Science opened ‘Discovering the Civil War’ exhibit recently. It contains a fresh look at a period of American history blurred by time and is divided into twelve themed areas. The experience is enhanced through touch screens and other media. Visitors to the exhibit will get to participate in “unlocking secrets, solving mysteries, and uncovering unexpected events from this pivotal point in American history.”

Texan Market Days features over 150 years of Texas history and provides an look at times gone by. The festival is held annually the fourth weekend of October and showcases a plethora of hands-on activities, battle reenactments, Civil War camps, live entertainment, archeological digs, food, craft vendors and much more.

Local Food Stars Illuminated the Houston Culinary Awards

The brothers who own the Pappas Restaurant Group, Harris an Chris Pappas were named restaurateurs of the year at the 2011 Houston Culinary Awards presented by My Table Magazine. Hugo Ortega of Hugo's and Backstreet Café was named chef of the year, while El Real Tex-Mex Café took home the award for best new restaurant in Houston.
